Detailed Description:
Subsonic Models and Probes
Drag Model Set

- AEROLAB produces a set of five Drag Models. These models can be used for both flow visualization and force measurements. Easily mounted to any 3/8-inch sting balance, the models are in the form of a teardrop, a backward-facing semi-spherical shell (cup), a sphere, a forward-facing semi-spherical shell (cup) and a circular flat plate.
1:48th Scale F-16 Model

- AEROLAB supplies a 1:48th scale model of the famous General Dynamics F-16 fighter. Resin-filled for greater strength, stiffness and durability, it mounts easily to any 3/8-inch sting balance with one set screw. The overall length is 11.5 inches (29.2cm) and the span is 7.5 inches (19cm).
Flat Plate and Mouse

- The AEROLAB Flat Plate and Mouse combination is a convenient way to demonstrate and study boundary layers and boundary layer growth. The 10-tap total pressure probe, or “mouse”, can be positioned in three locations along the length of the flat plate. The pressure probes ascend on an angle covering a width of one inch (25.4mm) and a height of 0.24 inches (6.1mm). The probes are approximately 0.048 inches (1.22mm) apart along the diagonal.
Pitot-Static Probe
- The AEROLAB Pitot-Static Probe features a rounded-tip total-pressure tap and 6 static ports. It reaches 2.6 inches (6.6cm) forward of the bend, extends 13 inches (33cm) to the bend, and has an OD of 0.125 inches (3.175mm). Aerolab supplies ample tubing to connect the tube to your choice of indicators. Although designed specifically for the EWT, the Pitot-static tube is adaptable to other tunnels and applications.
Pressure Cylinder
- The AEROLAB Pressure Cylinder mounts vertically and spans the test section of an Educational Wind Tunnel. It has 24 flush-mounted pressure taps around its circumference. Being mounted to the yaw table, angular position is adjustable. The Pressure Cylinder has an outside diameter of 4 inches (10.16cm) and is supplied with all necessary tubing to connect it to your choice of indicators. AEROLAB offers a Multi-tube Manometer and a solid state Pressure Transducer Array. Although designed specifically for the EWT, the Pressure Cylinder is adaptable to other tunnels and applications. Contact AEROLAB for details.
Pressure Wing
- The AEROLAB Pressure Wing mounts vertically and spans the test section of an Educational Wind Tunnel (12 inches / 30.48cm). It has 18 flush-mounted pressure taps around its Clark Y-14 airfoil. Being mounted to the yaw table, angular position is adjustable. The Pressure Wing has a chord of 3.5 inches (8.9cm) and is supplied with all necessary tubing to connect it to your choice of indicators. AEROLAB offers a Multi-tube Manometer and a solid-state Pressure Transducer Array. Other popular airfoils are available at extra cost. Although designed specifically for the EWT, the Pressure Wing is adaptable to other tunnels and applications. Contact AEROLAB for details.

Clark Y-14 Slat/Flap Wing

- The AEROLAB Clark Y-14 Slat/Flap Wing features infinitely adjustable slats and flaps. It mounts onto any 3/8-inch sting balance and can be used for both flow visualization and force measurements. The model spans 9.875 inches (25.1cm) and has a chord of 3.5 inches (8.9cm).
Turbulence Sphere
- The AEROLAB Turbulence Sphere is 4 inches (10.16cm) in diameter, highly polished and equipped with a 3/8-inch sting mounting post. Critical Reynolds number is determined with balance data as the sphere has no pressure taps. Spheres of different diameters are available – contact AEROLAB for details.
Wake Rake
- The AEROLAB Wake Rake has 18 total-pressure taps. The ports span approximately 1.75 inches (4.45cm) and are 2.125 inches (5.4cm) in front of the 90° bend. The Wake Rake is 10 inches long (25.4cm) and is supplied with all necessary tubing to connect it to your choice of indicators. AEROLAB offers a Multi-tube Manometer and a solid state Pressure Transducer Array. Although designed specifically for the EWT, the Wake Rake is adaptable to other tunnels and applications. Contact AEROLAB for details.
Yaw Probe
- There are three ports in the tip of the AEROLAB Yaw Probe. The probe has an overall length of 10.5 inches (26.7cm), an outside diameter (O.D.) of 0.125 inches (3.175mm), and mounts easily in the test section of an Educational Wind Tunnel. It features a machined aluminum triangle at its base which can be adjusted once the probe is calibrated. This triangle then shows the orientation of the ports from outside the test section and acts as a handle for quick, accurate angular changes. The Yaw Probe is supplied with ample tubing to connect it to your choice of indicators. Although designed specifically for the EWT, the Yaw Probe is adaptable to other tunnels and applications. Contact AEROLAB for details.
Supersonic Models and Probes
- AEROLAB offers handcrafted stainless steel models and probes specifically designed for Transonic and Supersonic wind tunnels. Models are sized and scaled for standard AEROLAB test sections. Custom orders are available at extra cost. Note – all Transonic / Supersonic models are designed to mount to AEROLAB model positioning systems and sting balances. However, custom mounting options are available upon request (to allow for mounting to an existing, non-AEROLAB positioning system). Detailed drawings are required and additional charges may apply.
Sphere
- The Super/Transonic Sphere is available in several diameters. Size selection is based on test section cross section. The sphere is sting mounted with a threaded base for easy installation and removal. Pressure taps are available at additional cost (tap count depends on sphere size).
Cone
- To ensure proper scaling, the base diameter of the Super/Transonic Cone is available in different sizes. Although the standard half-angle is 15-degrees, custom half-angles are available upon request. One face-located pressure tap is standard. More pressure taps are available at additional cost. The cone is sting mounted with a threaded base for easy installation and removal.
Wedge
- Similar to the Sphere and the Cone, the Wedge is available in different sizes to ensure proper scaling for any test section. It, too, is sting mounted with a threaded base for easy installation and removal. 15-degrees is the standard half-angle, but custom half-angles are available upon request. There is one face-located pressure tap. Additional pressure taps are available at additional cost.
Total Pressure Probe
- The Total Pressure Probe is sting mounted with a threaded base for easy installation and removal.
Force Missile
- The AEROLAB Force Missile Model is handcrafted and available in different sizes. It has an ogive nose, a constant-radius cylindrical body and four streamlined fins. It is sting mounted with a threaded base for easy installation and removal.
Pressure Missile Model
- The Pressure Missile Model is dimensionally identical to the Force Missile Model. It, however, has pressure taps located on the nose, body and fins. The total tap count depends on model size.
AGARD-B
- Traditionally, the AGARD (Advisory Group for Aerospace Research and Development) Model B is used for wind tunnel calibration. AEROLAB’s handmade AGARD models are available in different sizes for any test section. It is sting mounted with a threaded base for easy installation and removal.
5-hole Angularity Probe
-
This 5-hole probe is used to measure flow angularity. The center hole measures total pressure. The other 4 holes, located 90 degrees apart on a 30 degree half angle cone, detect the presence of off axis flow vectors.
Multi-port Rake
- Multi-port Wake Rakes are sting mounted and available with different port counts and widths based on test section size.
