Design & Analysis

service-design-1For more than 60 years, AEROLAB has specialized in the design and analysis of the full range of wind tunnel configurations:

  • Low speed wind tunnels (Eiffel, blowdown, and closed circuit)
  • Vertical wind tunnels
  • Transonic wind tunnels
  • Supersonic wind tunnels

CFD and Optimization Technology

service-design-3Our current designs are based on proven design principles and refined using the current state-of-the-art design and analysis resources, including Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and optimization technology. AEROLAB utilizes these tools to do the following:

  • Maximize test section flow quality
  • Minimize flow non-uniformities
  • Accurately predict power requirements
  • Optimize circuit layout and sizing

CFD Expertise

Our CFD practices include both steady-state and transient analysis, allowing us to properly model the physics associated with different system configurations. Our CFD team has a proven track record in closely replicating experimental test results for a wide range of applications.

Our optimization technology maximizes value through extensive automation of the design process. Designs are incrementally modified algorithmically until specific design requirements are met within the established design constraints. With this technology, our team improves the performance and efficiency of critical wind tunnel components, including the following:

  • Turning vanes

  • Contraction nozzles
  • Transition ducts (e.g., round to square)

Installation

If you need to move or upgrade your equipment, AEROLAB’s extensive installation experience covers you.

Relocation

installation-1At AEROLAB, every relocation project begins with a carefully considered plan. We care for your equipment and work closely with shippers to ensure smooth, safe and timely delivery. Upon delivery, AEROLAB is on site to oversee and manage installation and assembly by qualified, insured riggers.

If your lab facilities are relocated and you must move your devices, know that AEROLAB projects are designed and manufactured to last. We can handle your entire move, including shipping, rigging and necessary fabrication to ensure proper function. Contact us for a free quote.

Refurbishment / Upgrade

If your wind tunnel, regardless of manufacturer, has been unused for an extended period of time and/or damaged, we can completely refurbish it in most cases.

Fabrication

AEROLAB built its 13,000 square-foot facility in 1960 and has updated it with the latest technology ever since. As a result, we can offer you in-house machining, fabricating, welding and painting, finishing, electronics and design.

fabricationWorking from SolidWorks 3-D models and drawings, our in-house capabilities include the following:

  • CNC machining
  • Lathe work
  • MIG, TIG and stick welding
  • Soldering and brazing
  • Bending, forming and cutting
  • Drilling, reaming, tapping and threading
  • Finishing, painting
  • Assembly
  • Testing and calibration

For projects too large for our facility, we commission a local fabrication shop that works to our exact specifications. AEROLAB regularly monitors and oversees progress to ensure close tolerances and quality.
